All responses to the public consultation have been analysed and the Children and Family Centre (CFC) and Library Service teams are now planning how to ensure the best fit of both services for the local community.

Overview

Improving access to services: a vision for a new way to offer library and
children & family services in Findon

West Sussex County Council currently provides a range of services to residents in the Findon community, including library and information services using the library building on Lime Tree Avenue and services to children and families at the building on the Vale School site.

A proposal to improve childcare availability in the local community has been made which would involve the building on the Vale School site being remodelled and leased to a childcare provider. This would offer local families the option of accessing Early Years childcare and primary school provision all on one site.

As part of this proposal the library and Children & Family centre teams would work together to deliver all of their services using the library building on Lime Tree Avenue, currently open six days per week.

Families would have improved access to universal services such as Toy Library and information, advice and guidance, as these would be available every day the library is open. Families would continue accessing a range of health activities and clinics delivered by the same teams, plus they would be able to access some library and information services at the same time.

It would also improve all residents’ access to library and information services as the building would be open for additional hours but at no extra cost as staffing would be shared across County Council teams. There would be some minor changes to make the library shelving mobile to allow the internal space to be used differently at different times, but there would be no reduction in the range of books or other library resources stocked.

What Happens Next

All feedback will be analysed and shared with senior managers for both services and used to inform elected members who will be required to take the final decision.
