Adults' Services Vision and Strategy

This survey asks for your views on the proposed Vision and Strategy for the County Council’s Adults’ Services over the next three years (2019 - 2021)

Why do we need a Vision and Strategy?

We are committed to supporting people with social care needs to be as independent as possible. We want West Sussex to continue to be a great place to grow older and an inclusive place for all adults with disabilities, mental health issues and their families and carers. To support this goal Adults’ Services needs to change.

We need to act now to prevent, reduce and delay the dependence on traditional types of services, such as residential and nursing care provision. Despite projections that over the next 20 years the number of people aged over 65 living in West Sussex will increase by 100,000 (with a third of those aged over 85) our ambition is to decrease rather than increase reliance on these types of services.

There are significant opportunities to build on the natural strengths and resources of our communities. We need to link in with the community-based initiatives, such as community hubs, that are emerging across the county. We aim to deliver integrated and locally-based services that enable an improved quality of life for people who need care and support and their families and carers.

Our proposed Vision and Strategy has been developed using feedback from people who use our services, carers, staff, partners and other stakeholders. This was gathered as part of a three month programme of engagement in 2017 to hear views about a proposed community and strength-based approach to delivering adult social care.

The Vision and Strategy outlines the steps we propose to take with our partners and stakeholders to realise these ambitions and embrace our duties under the Care Act, against a background of ongoing financial challenges for health and social care.
